Transportation Jobs Facing Cuts
FJI
Encourages Members To Contact Congress
A
safe and reliable transportation system is vital to Janesville’s business
community. To
that end, Forward Janesville sent letters to Representative Paul Ryan and
Senators Herb Kohl and Russ Feingold, asking that they oppose efforts to reduce
funding for highway, transit and safety
programs. Congress is in the
process of finalizing appropriations bills for fiscal year 2006, and may choose
to keep funding for transportation at last year’s level.
This would reduce highway funding by $3.8 billion nationwide, and would
cost Wisconsin an
estimated $52.6 million. Such a
reduction could result in project disruptions,
slowed infrastructure improvements, and approximately 2,500 lost jobs!
At a time when our state is already experiencing huge transportation
funding shortfalls, Wisconsin’s transportation system simply cannot afford
this reduction.
We
encourage you to call our Congressional delegation to let them know that
adequate transportation funding is important to you and your business!
