The latest issue of our FJI Report magazine is arriving in mailboxes this week, bringing readers an in-depth look at one of the most important topics facing Janesville's future: housing.

Titled "Building What's Next," the cover story explores how housing availability, affordability and community planning are shaping economic growth, workforce development and quality of life across Janesville and Rock County.

While housing is often viewed through the lens of real estate or development, its impact reaches much further. Employers need housing options to attract and retain talent. Families need opportunities to find homes that fit their needs and budgets. Communities need a diverse housing stock that supports residents through every stage of life.

In this issue, readers will learn about the City of Janesville's ongoing zoning and subdivision code update and how proposed changes could create greater flexibility for housing development, encourage mixed-use neighborhoods and help address housing challenges identified by businesses and community leaders.

The feature also highlights the work of organizations including ECHO and the South Central Wisconsin Builders Association, as well as the efforts of local developers, builders, employers and community stakeholders working together to expand housing opportunities throughout the region.

Beyond the cover story, this issue includes:

  • An update on the newly strengthened partnership between Forward Janesville and JOIN Janesville Young Professionals, creating new opportunities for talent development and community engagement.
  • Highlights from the 2026 Forward Janesville Annual Awards Luncheon, where nearly 500 business and community leaders gathered to celebrate excellence in leadership, innovation, entrepreneurship and community service.
  • A recap of the largest Rock Regional Business Expo in event history, featuring more than 90 exhibitors and over 800 attendees.
