Forward Foundation Completes Sale Of 100 W. Milwaukee Street To Children's Museum

On April 24, 2025, the Forward Foundation completed the sale of the former bank building at 100 W. Milwaukee Street to the Children’s Museum of Rock County Foundation.

Representatives of the Children’s Museum of Rock County are expected to announce updated master plans later this year, as well as an executive director and a groundbreaking date.

“The Forward Foundation acquired this site for the purpose of finding the right project that will serve as a centerpiece for downtown Janesville. This project does that,” said Tim Lindau, former Board Chair of the Forward Foundation. At every step, we have been impressed with the organization, vision, and leadership of the children museum’s board. Our patience paid off with an incredible partnership. We cannot wait to see what this does to catalyze other growth and development in downtown.”

Thank you to all our supporters. I love that this big, beautiful, abandoned building is coming back to life,” said Derek Greene, Chair of the Forward Foundation Board.“And best of all, it will be filled with kids learning! I don’t think this gets done without the countless hours and dollars from The Forward Foundation efforts. Thank you to the many Directors and believers before me. Let’s go Janesville!

Since its founding, Forward Foundation programs have focused on four primary areas: Regional Economic Cooperation; Downtown & Neighborhood Redevelopment; Youth to Young Professional Programs; and Community Engagement with Targeted Groups & Opportunities.

This is a fantastic opportunity for economic development in downtown Janesville,” said Shar Hermanson, President and CEO of Forward Janesville. “We are excited for this project and the opportunity it brings to our families as we work to keep kids learning at all ages.”

The Children’s Museum of Rock County reports on its website having raised $13.5 million to date, with a campaign goal of $15 million.
